The use and misuse of illicit narcotics cost the United States billions of dollars in medical care, productivity, and crime. Thousands of deaths in America and other countries have occurred due to these narcotics and alcoholism. A person’s addiction to a drug can develop after long use of that drug. Due to their misuse, teenagers and adults face many difficulties during their lives. If a mother takes drugs during pregnancy, it may cause premature birth or slow down the learning ability of a baby. People mostly take narcotics to feel better and perform better. This motivates them to get addicted to drugs. People’s defence and risk factors are heavily influenced by environmental and risk factors. The overdose of drugs damages the brain (white matter, amygdala, basal ganglia, etc.). The information within the brain and between other body parts is carried out by neurons. These neurons transmit this information via neurotransmitters. Some drugs cause damage to these neurons, which results in memory loss and many other problems. With the advancement and continuous brain-science research, there are different treatments available to minimize the effects of narcotics on the brain.
