Interdisciplinary Research Facilitation at Daffodil International University

Daffodil International University (DIU) actively promotes interdisciplinary research, patent development, and external funding acquisition as core components of its academic and research culture. These priorities are embedded within DIU’s key policies, including the Research Grant Policy and the Faculty Recruitment & Promotion Policy, ensuring structured support and recognition for interdisciplinary research endeavors.

Interdisciplinary Science Research Success

In 2025, Daffodil International University has around 20% of its total research publications from interdisciplinary science research.

Following successful research projects are real-world problem-solving projects involving different disciplines within the University:

  1. Research Project on Regenerating Soil, Reclaiming the Future - A DIU-led Call for Sustainable Agriculture in Jashore that combines agriculture; environmental science and socio-economics disciplines.

  2. Interdisciplinary Research Project involving public health; climate science and water studies on: From Saline Threat to Safer Motherhood: Action Research Lighting the Path for Coastal Resilience

  3. Empowering Communities from the Ground Up – DIU’s Evaluation of the Jeebika Project

  4. Multidisciplinary Research Center Producing Cross-Field Outputs

DIU operates multi-disciplinary research center where researchers from different backgrounds collaborate:

    • Smart Data Science Center (AI + cognitive science + statistics + engineering)
    • Robotics & humanoid projects (engineering + AI + design)
    • Solar car project (engineering + sustainability + energy science)
Recognition & Incentives for Interdisciplinary Research

To encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration, DIU has established a dedicated research recognition framework:

  • Annual Research Excellence Awards: DIU honors the Best Interdisciplinary Researcher during its Research Award Giving Ceremony, celebrating impactful contributions that integrate knowledge across disciplines.
  • Financial & Non-Financial Support: The university provides research grants, course waivers, and other incentives to faculty engaged in interdisciplinary research.
  • Patent & Innovation Prioritization: Special emphasis is placed on patent-driven research and externally funded projects that bridge multiple fields.
Interdisciplinary Research in Faculty Recruitment & Promotion

DIU strategically prioritizes faculty members who excel in interdisciplinary research. Key evaluation criteria include:

  • Quality Publications: Faculty with high-impact interdisciplinary research publications receive greater recognition.
  • External Research Grants: Applicants securing external funding for cross-disciplinary projects are given preference.
  • Patent Contributions: Faculty contributing to patent development through interdisciplinary collaboration hold a competitive edge in recruitment and promotion.
  • Institutional & Industry Collaboration: Active engagement with multiple institutions or industry partners in interdisciplinary research strengthens a faculty member’s academic standing at DIU.
