Seminar on the activities of IAEG, WEG (Women Engineering Geologist) and YEG (Young Engineering Geologist)

February 27, 2025

A seminar titled "Activities of IAEG, WEG, and YEG" was successfully held on 27 February 2025, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, at the Prof. Dr. Aminul Islam Seminar Hall, Knowledge Tower, Daffodil Smart City. The event aimed to share insights into the activities and objectives of the International Association for Engineering Geology and the Environment (IAEG), along with its affiliated working groups—Women Engineering Geologists (WEG) and Young Engineering Geologists (YEG).

The seminar provided a platform to foster awareness and collaboration among geoscience professionals, academics, and students. It showcased IAEG’s contributions to advancing engineering geology practices, promoting environmental sustainability, and supporting disaster risk reduction through scientific innovation and international cooperation.

Special sessions were dedicated to the initiatives of WEG, which advocates for gender equity and supports professional development opportunities for women in geosciences, and YEG, which empowers early-career geologists through training, networking, and international engagement.

The seminar was enriched by the presence of esteemed guests from Jahangirnagar University and Daffodil International University, including:

  1. Dr. Hossain Md. Sayem, Chairman & Professor, Department of Geological Sciences, Jahangirnagar University
  2. Dr. ATM Shakhawat Hossain, Professor, Department of Geological Sciences, Jahangirnagar University
  3. Md. Emdadul Haque, Professor, Department of Geological Sciences, Jahangirnagar University
  4. Dr. Hasan Imam, Professor, Department of Geological Sciences, Jahangirnagar University
  5. Dr. Mahmuda Khatun, Associate Professor, Department of Geological Sciences, Jahangirnagar University
  6. President, YEG, Department of Geological Sciences, Jahangirnagar University
  7. Dr. A.B.M. Kamal Pasha, Professor & Head, Department of Environmental Science and Disaster Management (ESDM), DIU
  8. Dr. Mohammad Hannan, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Civil Engineering, DIU
