Abstract

This paper outlines the design and evaluation of an electric vehicle (EV) charging station at Daffodil International University (a large area covered organization) powered entirely by solar energy. It focuses on charging five EVs by determining the energy requirements and analyzing the viability of using solar photovoltaic (PV) panels to meet this demand. The study evaluates the characteristics of both the EV batteries and the solar panels, considering factors such as battery capacity and the amount of sunlight necessary for charging. To manage the energy supply effectively, the system uses a buck converter, a critical component for regulating voltage and current to ensure a steady energy flow to the EV batteries. The study further investigates how this buck converter influences the efficiency of the charging process, ensuring the batteries receive consistent energy. A key finding from the analysis is that the solar array, occupying 555.01 square feet, can generate 54 kWh of electricity-sufficient to charge the five EVs. Scalability is another feature of this design that will enable future growth as more EVs are added to the system. The study also looks at the charging system's overall performance, including the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controller's efficiency and the patterns of solar irradiation throughout the day. In order for the system to maximize energy capture based on sunshine conditions, the MPPT controller is essential in maximizing the power output from the solar panels. This combination of factors, including the solar array size, energy output, and control systems, demonstrates the practicality and future potential of solarpowered EV charging stations.
