Educating on the Move: Digitizing Climate Mobility and Resilience for a Changing World

Bangladesh is recognized internationally as ground zero for climate change. From the eroding banks of the Jamuna and Meghna rivers to the salinizing agricultural tracts of the southern delta, thousands of families are uprooted every month, forced to migrate from rural disaster zones into urban informal settlements. Navigating this immense socioeconomic shift requires trained development professionals, humanitarian workers, and local administrators equipped with actionable knowledge on climate displacement, human mobility, and community adaptation.

To scale this essential training, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) partnered with Daffodil International University (DIU) to transform its comprehensive 100-page training manual—Climate Change, Human Mobility & Resilience—into a dynamic, interactive digital learning curriculum hosted on GoEdu, DIU’s flagship open learning management ecosystem.

Turning Text into an Immersive Digital Experience

Led by Dr. Ehatasham Ul Hoque Eiten (Assistant Professor, Department of English) alongside GoEdu’s core technical and operational team, including Foyjunnessa Happy Khondker, Mohammad Shah-Al-Mamun, Hrithik Mojumdar, and Afroza Rahman Asha, the project moved from conceptual instructional design to complete deployment in an intensive two-month production cycle.

Leveraging DIU’s in-house Multimedia & Creative Technology (MCT) department and four state-of-the-art multimedia production studios, the team deconstructed dry policy language and technical migration legal frameworks into 10 structured, bite-sized e-learning modules.

Key innovations built into the digital platform include:

• Rich Multimedia Storytelling: Transforming complex case studies into engaging motion animations, expert video lectures, dynamic infographics, and clear conceptual summaries.
• Active Formative Learning: Integrating scenario-based interactive quizzes, knowledge-check checkpoints, and practical problem-solving exercises to ensure concept retention.
• SCORM 1.2 and xAPI Interoperability: Engineering every module to comply with international e-learning data specifications, enabling seamless tracking of learner progress, completion rates, and assessment metrics across diverse institutional learning management systems.

Democratizing Climate Knowledge Nationwide

Hosted live on the open-access platform (GoEdu Climate Training Course), the digitized course bridges the gap between high-level international policy frameworks and grassroots practitioners. Field workers, youth leaders, civil society advocates, and government officers across Bangladesh can now access quality climate-migration training on their smartphones and personal computers free of logistical barriers.

A Model for Digital University-Agency Partnerships

The rapid, successful completion of this initiative highlights DIU’s maturity as a digital-first institution capable of executing world-class pedagogical transformations. By partnering with the United Nations’ migration agency, DIU demonstrates how creative technology, linguistic expertise, and academic infrastructure can unite to equip humanitarians with the tools needed to build resilience for communities on the move.
