Abstract

The demand for poultry products is increasing day by day. The utilization of antibiotics is banned in feeds due to concerns about their harmful effects. Hence, medicinal herbs such as turmeric (Curcuma longa) areused as an alternative. The various biological properties of turmeric are effective in improvising the overall health and production of poultry. Curminoides and various other derivatives of turmeric are claimed to increase egg production, possess antioxidant properties,influence, hematological characters, have decreasing effects on liver and serum cholesterol, and reveal many other beneficial properties. Dietary turmeric supplementation improves digestion by increasing the efficient absorption rate by causing alterations in gut morphology. This review emphasizes the beneficial effects of turmeric on the health and production status of poultry. It also accentuates the biochemical composition and biological properties of turmeric, its effect on nutrition, egg production, egg quality, blood parameters,gut morphology, and intestinal microorganisms
