The growing threat of pollution to global health extends far beyond respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, affecting even our eyes. With increasing industrialization, urbanization, and environmental changes, pollutants have become a major risk factor for ocular health. Airborne contaminants, including particulate matter (PM), ozone (O₃), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), sulfur dioxide (SO₂), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), have all been associated with various eye diseases. This viewpoint highlights the mechanisms by which pollution contributes to eye health issues, discusses the current evidence, and calls for urgent action to mitigate this public health concern.
