Abstract

This study presents the initial experimental findings on the impact of fresher job fairs as a novel intervention in the labor market of Bangladesh. A leading job searching platform in Bangladesh organized a couple of job fairs in March and September with organizations from different sectors targeted at all education background students for jobs in the country, which yielded a significant number of job offers. Analyzing different contexts, we have found that the engagement and acceptance of the events towards job seekers and employers were significant. More than 54% of candidates were able to get offers from these two job fairs. While the overall impact on the likelihood of employment for the entire group of job seekers was not substantial, the fair had applicant’s majority from the country’s capital which hardly helped the cause of employment in other parts of the country. Gender equality could not be maintained, one encouraging fact is that female participation had increased in the later event. Our study advocates job fairs, as the engagement in the fair and the possibility of getting an offer from the fair seem satisfying.
