Abstract

Telecommunication projects are widely used by the English teachers across the world. This type of activity engages students to use their linguistic skills as well as negotiation skills whenever necessary. Competent allocation of the responsibilities within the student groups makes the discussion more effective and useful for each participant. A telecommunication project might also have a goal to create a new intellectual product. In this case the students enhance their linguistic skills while working on other issues. A telecommunication project is a complex system made of many components including technology, people and content. Whenever any component is changed it impacts the whole system. This study shows that a telecommunication project conducted outside of the main curriculum can be considered as a learning ecosystem prototype, which brings many benefits to its participants including enhanced intercultural communicative competence, negotiation skills, awareness and curiosity about other cultures and better understanding of one’s own culture.
