Abstract

Personalized surgery and precision medicine are changing the healthcare landscape quickly, providing customized treatment based on individual patients’ characteristics. Instead of building around generalized protocols, such methodologies leverage individual patient data, including genomics, biomarkers, and lifestyle, to tailor surgical and medical treatments. The standardization and integration of “omics” technologies (e.g. genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics) is an essential cornerstone of precision medicine in medicine that seeks to offer insight into the complete biological context of disease and inform treatment options. Technology like robotics, 3D imaging, and artificial intelligence make personalized surgery more precise and efficient. However, these strategies present some limitations, including ethical considerations, high expenditure, and logistical limitations. The future of these approaches lies in their incorporation into healthcare systems, making them the standard of care and providing more accurate, effective, and personalized treatments to patients.
