Abstract

Enigma Machine' is a cipher device that uses the scrambling method of encryption. The actual messages are scrambled according to the position replacement, thus making the ciphertext a permutation of the original message. The main purpose of this work is to digitize the following technique and implement it as a fully integrated circuit solution. The behavioral modeling was done using Verilog HDL and later practically implemented on the ZYBO Zynq-7000 FPGA Development Board. Finally, we calculated the number of combinations that the security key has in our ENIGMA-inspired encryption system. Through comparative analysis with standard AES encryption, it is confirmed that our system offers better resistance to brute-force attacks
