Abstract

This chapter conducts a systematic content analysis of misinformation on social media on the Israel-Palestine conflict, some of which PolitiFact has verified and refuted. It specifically identifies and categorizes the most common forms of misinformation, including historical distortions, AI-generated deepfakes, false statements, and altered graphics. The study examines the theme patterns and ideological narratives that drive these deceptive posts. Additionally, it critically assesses the influence of social media platforms in either exacerbating or alleviating misinformation. This research leverages PolitiFact 's reliable fact-checking data to clarify how online disinformation weaponization shapes public opinion and potentially escalates violence. The results seek to enhance media literacy programs, social media regulations, and academic discussions regarding digital communication in the context of geopolitical crises.
