In today's fast-paced world, it is gradually becoming difficult for most parents to provide their children with the time and attention they require, especially in the initial stages of emotional and mental development. To address this issue, a child companion robot is presented that can serve as an interactive emotionally intelligent companion that can detect child's mood as well as provide feedbacks accordingly to uplift child's mood or stimulate kids in learning procedures. Trained using convolutional neural networks and sequence models, this robot decodes visual data to classify emotions like neutral, surprise, happiness, sadness, and fear. Based on the predicted mood, the system reacts by playing rhymes, videos, or initiating learning games. In the interactive mode it responds dynamically to the child's moods, while at the manual mode user can control willingly. Additionally, a mobile application enables parents to remotely monitor their child's emotional state through visual graphs and mood history while controlling the robot's movement. The novelty of this work is an emotion-aware child companion robot with dual interaction modes and a connected parental monitoring app.
