Amid the rising complexity of rapid digital transformation, traditional leadership approaches are increasingly inadequate for preventing disputes in construction projects. In this context, digital leadership extends traditional leadership, integrating diverse leadership styles with digital competencies to enhance coordination, communication, and decision-making in construction projects, thereby preventing potential disputes. Despite its importance, digital leadership development in the construction industry remains underexplored in both practice and research. Therefore, this study identifies strategies for developing digital leadership competencies among entry-level construction industry professionals, drawing on the perspectives of experienced industry professionals. Semistructured interviews with construction industry professionals from Malaysia and Sri Lanka were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results encompassed 23 strategies, grouped into three themes: organizational, external, and individual. Most strategies () are concentrated at the organizational level, whereas four and two strategies were associated with the external and individual levels, respectively. A majority of the strategies are shared across both country contexts, alongside some context-specific variations. Collectively, the study findings indicate that organizational commitment serves as the foundation for the development of digital leadership competencies, with ecosystem-wide and individual efforts playing essential yet complementary roles. To the authors’ knowledge, this study is among the first to qualitatively identify and structure digital leadership competency development strategies for construction industry professionals across organizational, external, and individual levels, drawing on a multicountry perspective and explaining pathways through which these strategies may contribute to dispute prevention. By informing digital leadership development across industry, research, and policy, this study supports dispute prevention in construction projects.
