This study aims to examine the relationship between the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and employee work performance, while also assessing the moderating role of digital competency in this relationship within the Bangladeshi telecommunication sector. The study integrated two theoretical models: Task Technology Fit (TTF) and the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework, which together formed an integrated perceptual framework drawing on organizational and individual theoretical domains, connecting organizational adoption drivers to individual performance outcomes. Adopting a quantitative research design, data were collected from a sample of 300 employees working at five telecommunication companies in Bangladesh through a Google survey. Data analysis was conducted using PLS-SEM to test the hypothesized frameworks. The findings revealed that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) has a positive and statistically significant impact on employees' work performance in the Bangladeshi telecommunications sector. In addition, this study recognizes digital competency as an important moderating factor that strengthens the positive association between AI adoption and employees' work performance. This research has three contributions. First, it combines TOE and TTF into an integrated cross-domain perceptual model that links organizational adoption drivers to employee-level performance outcomes. Second, it demonstrates that adopting AI enhances employees' work performance in the telecommunications industry in Bangladesh, though the effect depends to some degree on employees' digital competency. Third, it makes clear that the research examines the adoption of AI in the workplace, in general, and generative AI specifically, thereby enhancing the precision of the construct and its practical applicability.
