Different design strategies for self-healing materials aredescribed in this editorial. In this study autonomic self-healingprocess in composite material is shown using microencapsulatedhealing agent. The components for self-healing are ureaformaldehyde capsule with dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) monomerand paraffin wax microspheres containing 10 wt% Grubbscatalyst. Any damage initiated in the composite, leads to arelease of the microcapsule inside the composite. Thismicrocapsule releases the healing agent, where it makes contact with catalyst and thus initiating polymerization to heal thecracks. The study also discusses some of the application areasfor self-healing materials in textile composite and possible futureapplication in the same field.
