- Abstract

In general, Telemedicine refers
to the use of information and communication technology to provide
health care facilities and support patients in remote area by providing
expert consultation. It is also a way to provide medical procedures to
remote locations at the time of emergency. Telemedicine can be
considered as a way to improve the quality of health care services. It
can be implemented to ensure the access to health care services lowering
the costs and saving time as well. Many developing countries are
implementing telemedicine to provide health care facility to remote area
where health care facilities are poor. As a developing country
Bangladesh cannot provide all the health care services to its rural
people with its limited resources. Implementing a nationwide
telemedicine network will help Bangladesh to support its rural
population by providing quality health services. In this paper we
mention some important factors which are related to implement
Telemedicine system in a developing country like Bangladesh. We also
propose a prototype portable telemedicine system for rural Bangladesh
that can improve health care facilities of the rural people by making a
connection between rural people and specialised hospitals in the capital
or in a distant location.
